Sri Lanka Consulate General in Mumbai Facilitates Business Delegation from Gujarat to Gems City Ratnapura 2026
In line with its economic diplomacy mandate, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, in coordination with the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA), facilitated the visit of an eight-member business delegation from the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) to the island nation to participate in the Gems City Ratnapura Exhibition 2026, held from 31 August to 2 September 2026 at the Grand Silver Ray Hotel in Ratnapura.
Comprising key business representatives and commercial buyers, the delegation included SGCCI senior executive representation, the Vice President of the Surat Diamond Association and the Convener of the CARATS Surat Diamond Expo. During the visit, the delegation sought to establish strategic trade connections and explore long-term partnerships with local gem and jewellery counterparts.
In addition to facilitating participation in the exhibition, the Consulate General structured a comprehensive itinerary to maximize commercial and investment outcomes throughout the visit. The delegates engaged in targeted interactions and B2B networking sessions with key trade authorities and business chambers—including the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), the Export Development Board (EDB), and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce—to explore broader foreign direct investment opportunities, enhance bilateral supply chains, and build direct connections with Sri Lankan exporters.
This initiative highlighted the continued efforts of the Consulate General to drive economic diplomacy, strengthen commercial ties between Sri Lanka and India, and promote the island's world-renowned gem and jewellery sector on the global stage.
