Priyanga Wickramasinghe, a career diplomat of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS), officially assumed duties as the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai today. She will oversee Sri Lanka’s diplomatic and commercial interests in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa.
Wickramasinghe joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 2003. Immediately prior to her appointment in Mumbai, she served as Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi.
Throughout her career spanning over two decades, she has held various key positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo and served in several Sri Lankan diplomatic missions in Paris, Geneva, Washington D.C. and New Delhi.
Before embarking on her diplomatic career Ms. Wickramasinghe was an academic and linguist. She served as a Lecturer in German at the University of Kelaniya (2000–2002) and as a teacher at the Goethe Institute in Colombo (1996–2005).
She holds a Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Kelaniya, where she specialized in English Literature, German, and French.
